This course is part of these programs:
» Advanced Implant Surgery
» Masters Program in Oral Implantology
Advanced Series:
This advanced series program is designed for the dentist with a strong background in Oral Implantology, or has taken the Pacific Institute’s Basic Surgical Series. Each of these courses brings a stronger surgical skill set to your practice. However, the full complement of these courses will provide the clinician with knowledge and skills to manage almost all surgical cases that present for treatment in today’s dental practice.
In addition to the specific clinical procedures, a strong emphasis will be placed on understanding healing complications for all procedures and techniques to successfully manage those complications
PRP & Blood Management:
The use of platelet rich plasma (PRP), and particularly of platelet derived growth factors (PDGF) are universally supported for value in tissue healing. Dr. Smith’s research in hematology has defined him as one of the leading experts in the world in the harvesting and management of PRP. His is the first person in the world to have predictable concentrated PRP to twenty-three times (23X) base values and clinically proved its efficacy in the generation of viable bone.
Dr. Smith, in 2005, discovered the technique to predictably harvest autologous thrombin, an essential additive to the re-coagulation of anti-coagulated blood. This course will teach the drawing of blood, its management for creating PRP and autologous thrombin and its application in particulate grafting.
Objectives:
To understand the rationale of use and the clinical procedures for the management of blood components in the enhanced healing of soft & hard tissues.
To review the relevant Biochemistry, Physiology and Clinical Application for:
• Autologous growth factors in:
• Bone Marrow
• PRP
• Recombinant Growth Factors in:
• rh PDGF
• rh BMP2
To understand the blood clotting process and identify the relative role of Thrombin in the formation for the blood clot
To understand the limitations of current bovine thrombin and its potential life-threatening risks based on current protocols in its manufacturing
To understand the value and limitations of allogeneic human thrombin to understand and learn the clinical procedures for drawing human blood
To learn how to effectively use concentrated platelet rich plasma in surgical protocols for:
• Particulate onlay grafts
• Sinus Grafts
• Periodontal tissue grafts
• Management of ailing implants Ridge maintenance grafts
• Incision line healing
